Unethical....they can't and won't do that. Time for a culture change in Edmonton.

Totally agree. As much as I hate the oilers, the franchise deserves much better.... Hell half of management is a part of that vaunted heritage... Hopefully Renney's post game rant sunk in with your kids...

You do realize players won't throw games for the sake of getting a higher draft pick. Neither will the coach, his contract is up after the year isn't it?

Cloutier if you want a Landeskog clone from this draft, go back to his old team. According to his coach, Radek Faska is really comparable to him. Plus the fact that he's a bigger center gives some flexibility as to potentially rotating him and Gagner on the second line.

The more I hear about Forsberg the more I think he's overhyped.

It's amusing to read the word "unethical" mentioned in the same discussion as professional sports. Keep in mind the two teams playing in the cup finals last year were the Canucks and Bruins...two biggest cheap shot, dirty teams in hockey.

Winning and ethics are separate topics.

I think you are overvaluing the 1st overall pick

Different kind of ethics, in the context in which you framed the question....my answer still stands.

Give Colorado or Los Angeles the second overall + Gagner(COL)/Hempsky(LA) for either Stastny or Kopitar, you need a top two pair of centers to compete!

I think were going for another Center at the draft. Oilers would look good with two number 1s, we need a top defence men, and a goalie, but I think the oilers will sign fillers and wait and see what they have in the system.

The kids aren't the problem...

And no, Boner... No throwing games. If we throw games, Hall will want out.

The Oilers are not going to throw games. He is just saying that for poop and giggles, and to make people mad. Dont feed the dumb comments, just ignore them. Like he said he dosent have much to write about right now.

Edit: I think Renny rant was about the whole team and the kids. For some shifts they did look lazy, but thats because their still learning. Are they the reason we are losing so much? Hell no, but I think he wants them to play even better, because they can.

He definitely wasn't referring to Hall or Petry (if you consider Petry a kid) because he praised both of those guys... It's hard to get down on Ebs and The Nuge considering what they've done this year... Last night was the result of something that was building up over a long period of time. So I think Hall, Ebs, Nuge, Petry were not the focus of his outburst... I also think Gagner was safe too, as Renney has praised him numerous times over the last month.

To me it looks like the Oilers are building a fantasy roster rather than building a Stanley Cup Team! Trade the pick wherever they end up for players and they will improve in the long run imo.

Yeah, if we lose badly tomorrow it should be interesting to see Renney's response

I agree, but I dont think trading the pick for a player is going to help much, unless its Price. lol (wishing) I think if the Oilers get another number one Center in this draft it will help them alot. Look at Det, Pit, hell even Van. Having two number ones Centers is very nice thing to have.

“They’re playing not to lose,” said Renney. “If you’re going to fall, fall forward, lose going after games and understand that the ebb and flow is something you have to come with and learn from and go after it. It’s interesting who does that on a nightly basis, the guys who go after it every single time.”
God I hope this sinks in. with nothing to lose it would be great to see some wide open desperate hockey.

Might have that in other guys in the system, might be able to sign that. Hardest thing to sign in the NHL or trade for is a number one center. The great teams have two. The Oilers have a chance to get that.

I wish they'd increase the size of the ice surface... That would really benefit the Oilers.

Incredibly torn on who to pick and who to get rid of. Having a top 6 center with size would be great but Gagner is one of the few heart and soul guys on the team and is only 22, also do we really want our two top centers next seaosn to be a rookie and a sophomore? I like the idea of drafting Forsberg and maybe try and trade down a couple spots if possible too.
